Part 1: The Polar Water Molecule
A water molecule (H2O) is bent like a set of mouse ears. Oxygen is highly electronegative and hogs the shared electrons, leaving the oxygen atom with a partial negative charge and the two hydrogen atoms with partial positive charges.
