2. 2. Asymmetrical Bending: Carbon dioxide (CO2) is linear, but when struck by a 15-micrometer infrared photon, its bonds bend and stretch asymmetrically, creating an oscillating dipole.
3. 3. Quantum Resonance: The CO2 molecule absorbs the photon's energy and vibrates vigorously.
4. 4. Omnidirectional Re-radiation: Within picoseconds, the molecule collides with other air molecules or re-emits the infrared photon in a random direction—half of which radiates back down toward Earth.
